Let’s Be THOSE Kind of Women

Before tales of adorable fuzzy bunnies and delectable chocolate eggs, there was a man and an old rugged cross who changed the course of human history. Jesus. Some call him a prophet, while others call him a great teacher, but His followers call Him The Son of God, Savior, Redeemer, Friend. The message of his unexplainable sacrifice has journeyed the globe for thousands of years.  This is his story.

The one, who created and rules over everything, left His throne to pay the unfathomable price and penalty for all sin. Without a home or huge amount of wealth, He committed His life to serving and loving the unlovely, the dirty, and the rejected. He healed the sick and hurting. He gave hope to the tormented and imprisoned. He offered grace & forgiveness to the guilty. He fed the poor. He ate dinner with rebels. He embraced the outcasted and his teachings astonished. Love your enemy. Forgive those who hurt you. Pray for those who despitefully use you. Serve. Sacrifice. Surrender. He withheld nothing.

The church was too distracted with rules and religion to recognize His divine purpose.  His friends were too paralyzed by fear to stand up for Him. With a kiss, He was betrayed. With thirty-nine stripes, He was broken. Forsaken, beaten, and pulverized – He was fully aware of the cost of His sacrifice.

After being mauled and tortured for hours, He was forced to carry the weighty cross that He would later be nailed to. With every weak step forward, they spit on Him and mocked Him. They pounded a crown of thorns into His scalp. They stripped Him of His clothes as they slowly drove thick dirty nails into His blood-gushing hands and feet. With every strike He agonized. Like starving lions devouring their prey, they annihilated Him – piece by piece.  They jabbed a spear into His side. When the time had come, He looked up to Heaven and said, “It is finished.” Then, He took His last breath.  The Earth trembled. He was placed in a tomb. Three days later, He rose from the dead. In that time, He conquered death, hell, and the grave. Satan was defeated and sin lost its power over us. When His followers came back to mourn for Him, an angel proclaimed, triumphantly, “He’s not here. He has Risen, just as he said he would.” God is able to resurrect all that’s been lost and stolen. When it looked like hope was gone, The Father was making a way for the most magnificent gift mankind will ever know…

He paid this unfathomable ransom for you. With each grueling strike, Jesus thought of you. He was taking your place. He was wearing your shame. He was feeling your pain. Relentless, He pressed on, because of you – because of His incomprehensible, unparalleled, love for you. The one, who masterfully created EVERYTHING that is beautiful and perfect in the world, considers you His work of art and He was willing to pay the ultimate price to save you from destruction.  You are His treasure. You are His masterpiece. Before you were born, He called you by name. With His bare hands, He carefully knit you together in your mother’s womb. He breathed life into you and spoke purpose and destiny over your future. He calls you free, favored, and forgiven. He knows every detail of your existence. He knows your needs AND your wants. He’s seen your beginning and your end. He knows what you’re going to say even before you say it. He’s seen your heart and He wants it. He wants all of it. He wants to put the pieces back together. He wants you to know Him.  Not the text book, Sunday-school song version of Him. He wants you to know Him personally. All you have to do is surrender to Him. Come to Him just as you are. Bring your questions and your doubts and lay them at His feet. Ask Him to forgive you for your past and show you how to live. Trust Him with your future. The one who came back from the grave for you is able to resurrect your faith and broken dreams. Will you accept His gift today?
